COMING OUT by Strange1974, Screenplay of the Month nominee in May 2007, was recently optioned. There have been several scripts optioned on the site, but in this case the optioning party was another TriggerStreet.com member Philsmy, a.k.a. Phil Smy, who is a producer with CostaFilma based in Spain. Phil explains, "CostaFilma is a full-service organization aimed at the independent film and video market. We are a distributor - buying the rights to completed films and getting them out to the domestic market in Spain via TV, DVD and increasingly, the internet. We also run FilmAmora.com, a NetFlix-type service for Spain with over 20,000 DVD titles available for rent. Finally, we do production - we've shot several short films, are in pre-production on a television series, and are looking to produce our first feature film in 2008."Why look for material on TriggerStreet.com? Phil said, "I've been a member of TriggerStreet since near it's inception. I am a screenwriter myself and I appreciate the challenges a writer faces to make a good script. A few months ago I put the call out on TS for scripts for CostaFilma to consider. Some writers, like Jason, saw an opportunity and submitted. Through [TriggerStreet.com] and various other sources we ended up with around 100 scripts to read! Many were not even close to being filmable - either they were bad scripts or out of our budget range or didn't fit with what CostaFilma wanted to do. Jason's script was appealing because it was simple and well presented. We knew that whatever script we chose, odds were that we would need to alter it to fit the location (Spain) and the available resources. The thing we loved about 'Coming Out' was that it was a story that could be altered in those ways yet still retain the charm that the original script had. We've taken an option on the script and are looking to take it to the next stage of development."
