TriggerStreetTV - Episode 25: "Straight to the Web"

Posted December 18, 2007 by The TriggerStreet Team
In strike news, Dana and Evan discuss a trend that was predicted on TriggerStreet.com weeks ago: writers and venture capitalists are considering teaming up to bypass the studios. The AFI Top Ten Films List is out and the new "Bond" girl has been revealed. "Jackass 2.5" is going straight to the web, and finally, everybody's favorite: the Daily News unveiled their "50 Dumbest People of Hollywood" list. Did the guys make the cut?

Hey Dana,

1) I get fed information every day about any new screenwriting-centric article that gets published on the web, which I now share on my blog in Screenwriting News posts. If you’re ever looking for something different / unique to talk about, you are always welcome to use any of that stuff.

2) If you're looking to broaden your audience to people outside of TS, would it be possible to embed your vids on blogs? I average about 300-500 hits a day (depending upon the article). It'd be great fun to post your vids.

3) It'd also be fun to watch you guys give news while making STRIKING WRITER MARTINIS!

2 oz vodka "to fortify against the cold Strike Winter"
2 oz cranberry juice "as the writers are seeing red"
1 oz sweet and sour mix "they’re grateful for solidarity in this bitter struggle"
4 drops vanilla (or use vanilla vodka) "to symbolize the 4 cent raise they asked for"
"There’s no cherry in this drink, as writers aren’t getting a piece of the pie. Garnish with a half a redvine, as they hope to be back on the set soon."

Hope you’re well.

Your ideas were interesting me until you tried to coin another buzzword. Just because you've heard of this thing called "Web 2.0" doesn't mean you can just add one to it and say you've thought of Web 3.0.

Everyone hates the "2.0" phrase, but Web 3.0 is an actual technology. It's called the Semantic Web, it already exists, and if you understood what's happening in the technology of the internet, you'd already know about it.

I've always wondered how all those TV shows and movies that try to talk about computers end up sounding so tone-deaf when it comes to technology.
If you can't be bothered to understand the topic you're talking about (or producing a film about), please consult someone who does, first.

Sorry, I know it's a rant, but things like that completely distract from your message. Imagine if you were a baseball fan and someone started talking about the pitcher throwing a touchdown. You'd find it impossible to give the rest of the message your attention.

Odd that on the official Semantic Web home from the W3C, http://www.w3.org/2001/sw/ , there's no mention of Web 3.0, and that the Semantic Web FAQ points out how the Semantic Web improves on certain Web 2.0 functionalities, but doesn't associate the term "3.0" with the SW: http://www.w3.org/2001/sw/SW-FAQ#relweb2 . On the W3C site, there are occasional suggestions in talks that SW = 3.0, but these are speculative at best, and certainly not official. And it's not as though there's universal agreement on what Web 2.0 is, or that such agreement matters.
