The gates at several studios in Hollywood are much quieter today than in weeks past. Judging from the WGA's swift (and quite negative)
response to the AMPTP's
proposal for "groundbreaking moves" it's most likely not because things are any closer to a resolution that is satisfactory to either side in the talks, or to the many others who have so far lost jobs as a result of the strike. It's not the clouds making it a gloomy day for 120 staffers of "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" whose last day of work is today, with no promise of getting their old jobs back after the strike has been resolved. Rain
No Rain
So where are the writers? Has their solidarity been diluted by a little rain? In actuality they rallied at Sony Pictures today for a "Hollywood Homecoming" of sorts, which seems consistent with their pattern of picketing multiple sites Monday through Thursday and then doing a larger, single rally in one spot on Fridays. Though non-Sony Pictures studio gates may be picket-free today,
they don't promise to be next week. Variety.com quotes screenwriter T. Jay O'Brien as taking the Post Office motto a step further -- "Whether rain, snow, sleet or bad driving." Regardless, rain or shine, picket lines or no, the WGA/AMPTP talks are set to
resume on Tuesday.
How about some fact checking?
(Don't bother checking Variety's biased coverage).
