Greg Jackson is an independent filmmaker based in Halifax.
He began working in film in 1999 at the Atlantic Filmmakers’ Co-operative when he took part in the Introduction to 16mm Filmmaking program. The program allowed him to develop, write and produce his first short film: The Dishwasher Manifesto, featured in the 20th Atlantic Film Festival (2000) and the Festival’s Roadshow: An Evening of Atlantic Canadian Shorts. The film focuses on a bitter rant by a dishwasher who tries to break free of the bondage of the mundane and his dead-end job to pursue his dreams.
Nothing but the Truth, his second film, is a brutally frank comedy that depicts what would happen if two people actually voiced to each other what they were thinking the morning after a one-night stand. The film premiered at the 22nd Atlantic Film Festival (2002), then went on to NSI’s Film Exchange (2003), the Commonwealth Film Festival (2003), Montreal’s Just For Laughs Comedy Festival/Comedia (2003), The World Of Comedy International Film Festival (2004) and the Worldwide Short Film Festival (2004). It was also broadcast nationally on CBC-TV’s program Zed TV.
His third film, Vent, was screened at the 23rd Atlantic Film Festival (2003), the NSI Film Exchange (2004), the Commonwealth Film Festival (2004) and won the Atlantic Filmmakers Co-op’s Best Picture of 2004. It stars John Dunsworth as Lewis Miller, an overlooked, embittered middle management type, who simply must get something off his chest.
He has written two ½ hour scripts entitled Room 12 and Hockey Sucks, and the feature length project Involuntary Donation. All three scripts were selected to take part in the Atlantic Film Festival’s Script Development Program and are currently in various stages of development.
Jackson’s most recent project was borne through the Atlantic Filmmaker’s Co-op’s 2007 Film 5 program. After months of training and preparation he wrote and directed his latest work You Can’t Do That On Film Anymore; a film about the perils of the creative mind.
