I'm glad ya'll did a nice little tribute to Michael Jackson. I grew up with his music, still have "Thriller" on record, & I remember when my dad gave it to me as a young kid. He was legendary with music & his dance moves. Very interesting on the possible merges. That would change so much in the business. I wonder if the economy has any effect on it at all with people not purchasing as much (also probably not as many people can afford to go to the movies these days or even rent them) especially those who do buy Blu-Ray? Nice chugging there Carter while Matt went on about politics for a moment. Good attempt at "watch this" Matt. I'm at a loss on the real movie snippet. Dana we miss you but thanks for keeping us all up to date on twitter, it's greatly appreciated. Very interesting changes happening with the Academies. The one with the top ten best films is quite a stretch. Good job again guys. Thanks
I must say I find it interesting that you think it's the reviewer's responsibility to help the writer improve.
I certainly read your 146 word review of "The Poison Tree" and I noted your opinion that "the writer does have potentials but needs to work on presentation." I'm also glad to note that most of the other reviewers (16) of that story disagreed with you.
If you take a look through my reviews, you will see I tend to focus on the substance of the story, and not so much the style of the presentation. I prefer to focus on such things as theme, plot, setting, character, pacing, coherency, etc. That's what I did with yours.
Sorry you didn't like my review, but it was constructive. I gave you a specific area - plot logic- where I thought the story didn't work, and I did offer you a suggestion of how -at least to me- you could make it a more interesting, original story. And, originality in a time travel story is a real challenge. You have to know how many published and unpublished time travel stories, screenplays and movies are floating around. Right?
(As an aside, I must be doing something generally correct when it comes to reviewing, because as my previous account, MSPIRA, I was named the January 2006 Reviewer of the Month. If you're unaware of how the ROM honor is earned, it is bestowed based upon blind peer ratings of the reviews themselves.)
.
I usually include a disclaimer that it's just my 1.5 cents. That's all my review of your story is: my opinion. Use if it helps you, otherwise feel free to ignore it.
::shrug::
I suggest if you want to be serious about writing things you intend others to read, it might serve you to develop a little bit of a thicker skin.
I've reread my review of "Amerakin Blue" and I now realize I was wrong to write that your decision to have Blue "incinerate" an innocent man was a big mistake, that it would "destroy" the empathy between the reader and main character.
Maybe it would, for most people. But upon further review I now see the reasoning behind that creative choice.
Please disregard my previous statements on the aforementioned subject.
